Soaking the rattan so it's easier--not easy, but easier--to slice by hand into very narrow strips, dying the fiber, then while it's still flexible weaving it into shapes.

Here, after carefully weaving a disc in brown rattan, narry strips of natural rattan are woven in a four-pointed starburst centered with an ornamental coin. Unique!

Measures about 3" across.
