Island Planet Tropical Clothing

We had these made more than 40 years ago in Bali and have had them stored away since then. There are only three of the polished version and three of the tiger version still in existence as far as we know as the artisan who made them is gone.

A full nautilus shell hollowed out inside was used in the creation of these , truly a vintage marvel in the handbag category but really I would use them for decoration as shells can be fragile out of the water! They feel pretty sturdy, though, but probably up to being banged around in today's life!

Shell size (remember, these are natural, not man made so size differs but all great!) runs from 6-7" from top to bottom and 7-8" across.

It's a full shell, not lined inside and 3-4: wide. The bottom halves of the outside are wrapped with palm fiber and framed with braided grasses; the closure flap, also of palm fiber is attached with golden metal rings to the shell and a coconut shell button to close with a jute loop.

The braided grasses strap features a tassel of grasses wrapped with hand rolled jute and decorated with seashells and hand cut coconut shell beads.

Really, this is a work of art for display on your wall to treasure!
